The sudden crack of a branch alerts you\u2014could it be a bear or a pack of wolves nearby? In an instant, your body reacts: heart racing, muscles tightening, mind sharpened and ready to fight, flee, or freeze.<br><br>That survival response was vital then. But while the likelihood of meeting a wild animal in today\u2019s cities is almost zero, the body\u2019s mechanism hasn\u2019t changed much. Now, instead of predators, the \u201cthreat\u201d might be a heated email, a traffic jam, or an argument with a loved one.<br><br>Your nervous system doesn\u2019t distinguish between the forest and the office\u2014it just reacts. That\u2019s why emotions like anger or frustration can feel so overwhelming and out of your control.<br><br>The important truth is this: you may not be able to stop the first surge of emotion, but <strong>you can choose your response<\/strong> to it. stk-c4337cf\" data-block-id=\"c4337cf\"><p class=\"stk-block-text__text\">Once you notice it, silently define what you are feeling. <br>For example: \u201cI am feeling anger, frustration, and anxiety.\u201d It could be any emotion\u2014sadness, loneliness, worry, or fear. <br>Naming it creates a small distance between you and the emotion, giving you objectivity. <br>This small step alone begins to calm the sympathetic response, helping you step out of the automatic reaction. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-icon-box stk-block-icon-box stk-block
