While that approach can help if you\u2019re only a little nervous, it often <strong>makes things worse when the fear is strong or has been with you for a long time.<\/strong><br><br>Just like I mentioned in the episode interjection, if you keep experiencing <strong>strong anxiety or nervous symptoms<\/strong>\u2014sweaty palms, a blank mind\u2014<strong>coupled with that sinking sense of \u201cI messed up again\u201d each time you push yourself<\/strong>, those experiences don\u2019t help. Instead, they <strong>reinforce the fear and make each attempt feel even harder.<\/strong><br><br>That\u2019s exactly what happened to me as a music student. In my undergraduate program, when I first started performing, I was nervous at first, of course\u2014but I began with <strong>low-pressure performances in front of peers<\/strong>. I was able to manage the nerves, and over time, I got used to it. But in graduate school, the stakes felt higher. The pressure to perform well triggered a <strong>full-blown fear of performing<\/strong>, and the more I performed under that pressure, the stronger my anxiety became. <strong>It really showed me how pushing through fear alone can sometimes backfire.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-stackable-column stk-block-column stk-column stk--hide-mobile stk-block stk-8c1b547\" data-v=\"4\" data-block-id=\"8c1b547\"><style>@media screen and (min-width:690px){.stk-8c1b547 {flex:var(--stk-flex-grow, 1) 1 calc(33.333% -
